Diamond Certifications
Most diamonds look the same but they are all not the same. Some high quality diamonds before
it is sold comes with a Diamond Certification. If a jeweler does not have it when you purchase
a diamond ring then you cannot be assured you have a genuine diamond. When people tell you before
you go shopping for a diamond, make sure you test the four c’, cut, color, clarity and carat they
actually make up the way the diamonds are certified.
The Diamond Certificate can also help you to determine the fair market value. You can also make
a fair comparison with other diamonds if you have the certification numbers. The diamond
certificates are given by an independent gemological lab. There are a few grading laboratories,
you may have heard of them. There is the International Gemological Institute or the IGI, the
Gemological Institute of America (IGA), The American Gem Society (AGS), The Gemological
Laboratories (EGL) and the Game System.
To get a certification a diamond must be weight to determine the carat, the cut is the craftsmanship
that is put into the diamond, the color ranges on a scale from colorless which is very rare to yellow
which some people like because it is a warm type of color and clarity the tested on a scale to how
pure the diamond is. All of these scales are then combined to give a report and then the gemologist
in the lab will certify the diamond based on the reports.
