Cleaning and Care for Diamonds
You maybe don’t realize what normal everyday things can do to your ring. Hand lotions, dishwashing
soap and hair products like shampoo, gel and hairspray. All of these things can leave a thick layer
of film on your diamond. Even though the diamond is the hardest surface known to man but the coating
and other extra hardening materials that are used on your ring may be wearing off form the products
that you are using on your hands.
You should clean your ring every week, if you are using any of those materials on your hands, also
cleaning products can affect the clarity external clarity of your ring. First soak your ring in a
warm mixture of mild liquid detergent and some water, Ivory dishwashing soap is a great choice.
Then use a very soft brush and remove the dirt but only if it is necessary. You don’t want to brush
your ring unless you have to.
Then swirl the ring in the mixture and then rinse off, using warm water only! Make sure you put the
drain down to make sure your ring doesn’t slide down the drain. Dry the ring with a dry lint free
cloth. Do not use a napkin or paper towel because they are abrasive and they may scratch the surface
of the ring. Do this once a week just to wash away the week’s worth of hair products and other
chemicals that may have gotten on your ring.
